Elaine Snell & Bill Snell

All our artwork starts with an original drawing that is refined and translated into a pattern. Pieces are cut from mild steel or copper with a plasma cutter. The intricate details are inspired by classic paper cut techniques. Vibrantly colored transparent paints are used in some pieces to enhance the reflective qualities of the ground steel surface. Other pieces use the natural black steel color to display the artworks silhouette. All pieces are finished with a clear lacquer. To prevent rust and protect the artwork, all pieces should be displayed indoors.

Black Cat ArtWorks (formerly Elliott Metal Works) is the new name for a new company. Elliott Metal Works was a family run company, but it was time to shut down after over 50 years of business, primarily in textile machinery. Textiles are not what they used to be! Elaine and Bill Snell have now taken their creative side of the metal working business out on their own. We have a new studio and name, but are continuing to create the unique and elegant metal art that we started as Elliott Metal Works. We will continue to use processes that fuse industrial materials with artistic vision, and are looking forward to expanding and exploring new ideas in metal work.
